Obtaining a marriage license in Hawaii is a fairly simple process.
Couples getting legally married in Hawaii can begin the process by following 3 easy steps.
Step 1) Begin online by filling out a marriage license worksheet This will make Step 2 much easier. Payment to the State of Hawaii should be made at the time you apply online. This application is good for 1 full year from the date it is submitted online.
To begin the application, go to http://health.hawaii.gov/vitalrecords/marriage-licenses/
Step 2) Meet with a Licensing Agent with the State of Hawaii. Both Bride & Groom need to be present and have positive identification like a passport or driver license. The Licensing Agent will go through your application with you to be certain all of the information is correct and make any necessary changes. They will give you a "Marriage License Worksheet". Bring this paper with you to your ceremony. After the issuing of your Marriage License Worksheet, you have to marry within 1 month of the date of your meeting or it is no longer valid. You will need to go to the State of Hawaii Department of Health to meet with a marriage license agent any weekday from 8:00am to 3:30pm. Getting there by taxi or rental car is most convenient. The city bus can also take you there. If time is short or you need to meet with a marriage license agent on the weekend or after normal business hours, please contact the State Marriage License Office at: 808-586-4544
Step 3) Bring your Marriage License Worksheet with you to your ceremony. You both have to sign it together with your officiant. They will take it after the ceremony and file it later that day online. Your Marriage License is complete. At this point you are legally married. Temporary copies of your Marriage License can be obtained online 3 business days from your ceremony. If you are in town for awhile you can go to the Dept. of Health 5 business days later and get the actual copy of your License. Otherwise, it will take 4-6 weeks before you receive your License in the mail. More information can be found here: http://health.hawaii.gov/vitalrecords/marriage-licenses/
